The St. Augustine Humane Society believes prevention is the answer: preventing pet overpopulation with affordable spay neuter programs; and preventing the need to relinquish pets to shelters with assistance services and education. Our newest awareness project, "Abandoned to Adored" is an educational exercise that will take you on the journey of a shelter dog. There's nothing more heartbreaking than looking into the sad eyes of an abandoned dog peering out from behind the bars of a shelter. There are too many cases that end up being the responsibility of local rescue groups and our county shelter, and the costs associated with the care and adoption services are enormous. Our abandoned pooch is followed from the moment of intake to being selected, medically rehabilitated, professionally trained , groomed and pampered, then sent on a pet supply shopping spree before it is placed in a perfectly matched loving home to be adored by its new family.
